Data centers are booming. But there are big energy and environmental risks

We help State and Local Governments truly and honestly understand renewable energy proposals. We help states and local counties navigate the complexities of renewable energy proposals from developers of wind, solar, battery energy storage systems and data centers

For the developer, it is a leveraged lease, allowing renewable energy developers to acquire use of a high-cost asset while minimizing upfront capital outlays

Economic Impact Assessment

The claims made by the renewables industry do not, by design, account for the displacement of other forms of economic activity, nor do they account for the costs of those displaced.

Developers show local, usually small rural counties "Commissioned reports" boasting of the marvelous economic impacts from a proposed solar project for your county or state.

Those "Commissioned reports" include, as direct, indirect or induced economic impacts, activities within all sectors in all areas.

Fees for investment banks from around the world. as well as Legal Fees and Engineering and the cost of components manufactured elsewhere are included as though your state will reap a huge bonanza

Jobs and Economic Development Impact models
 (JEDI)

The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) cautions that their Jobs and Economic Development Impact (JEDI) models do not reflect many other economic impacts, including the displacement of other types of economic activity.

JEDI results are not a measure of project profitability or viability. Their models do not provide any type of cost/benefit analysis, return on investment, or other measures of project profitability or viability

Understand the limitations of the Jobs and Economic Development Impact models (JEDI)

Economic Impact Assessment

Their input-output models include, as direct, indirect or induced economic impacts: impacts within all sectors in all areas; accounting, insurance, banking, consulting, legal, and all manufacturing and retail sectors.

Their models estimate and include as induced impacts activities such as steel mill workers from Gary Indiana. insurance agents in Bloomington, accountants in New York or retail clerks in San Francisco who may buy a car.

Their models estimate and include as induced impacts activities such as an Investment Banker who might eat at a fancy New York restaurant, go golfing or go see a Broadway show because of the project in your rural community.

JEDI counts those as gross impacts  "economic development" for your community

We Help State and Local Governments

We help State and Local Governments truly and honestly understand renewable energy proposals.

JEDI results do not reflect many other economic impacts, including the displacement of other types of economic activity.

Their ‘industry experts’ insinuate that reduced property values would be equivalent to creating affordable housing.

Community Awareness Enhancement Rate Post-Analysis

empowering state & local governance through insightful analysis

  1. Developers overstate the benefits of renewable energy projects while failing to account for the displacement of other economic activities and costs to local communities.

  2. Impact on Energy Rates: the growing demand for renewable energy to power data centers is driving up electricity rates for average ratepayers, who do not benefit from the power purchase agreements (PPAs) secured by large corporations.

  3. Long-Term Land Use Concerns: Long-term impact of solar and wind projects on land value, soil quality, and the potential for creating brownfield sites with indeterminate future value

  4. Increasingly, there is significant resistance to renewable energy projects in many states, with local laws and ordinances being enacted to restrict or ban such developments.

  5. Certain states, like Illinois or Virginia, and others fully support renewable development, even if it is in direct opposition the express wishes of the people who live there.

Economic Impact on Taxpayers

renewable energy tax credits represent a significant wealth transfer from taxpayers to developers

Renewable energy tax credits contribute to the national debt without providing proportional benefits to communities

Displacement of Agricultural Land

Tax credits incentivize the development of solar and wind projects on prime farmland. This taxpayer-funded "land grab" that could have long-term negative impacts on food production and rural economies

Limited Community Benefits

communities hosting renewable energy projects receive minimal financial benefits compared to the substantial profits reaped by developers and investors through tax equity financing financing

Misleading Economic Impact Claims

questionable  viability of renewable energy projects without tax credits, suggests that these projects are primarily driven by tax avoidance rather than energy needs
